Why Should I be tested?
The secret to staying healthy means making sure you prevent problems before they become serious. However, serious conditions such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease can still exist without noticeable symptoms for a number of years. When blood tests reveal abnormalities, it is critical to take the necessary steps to prevent the progression and return to normalcy. Therefore, early detection through preventive testing can lead to early treatment, improving your quality of life. A simple blood test can alert you to an illness well before symptoms appear, thus allowing you to take preventive measures.
Do I need to fast before I get tested?
Fasting is required for some tests, but not all. Therefore, instructions will be provided with your testing paperwork when mail to you and indicate if a fast is required for your specific testing.
How often should I test?
The short answer is, it depends. As a general rule, if you are in good health an annual test should be sufficient. Although many people in good health choose to get tested between 2 to 3 times a year as a way to monitor their health. If you are experiencing health problems, you may find it helpful to get tested every 2 to 3 months to measure increases and decrease in certain levels. In addition, for high performing athletes who are training intensely, more frequent testing may be necessary.
What if my lab results are abnormal?
Abnormal blood results are compared to the general accepted ‘clinical ranges’. If your results are outside of the ‘clinical ranges’, they can be considered an early warning and do not necessarily mean you have an illness or a disease. Remember your blood tests are only a piece of the overall picture, therefore it is important to consider other factors such as diet, exercise, weight, and genetics, and therefore we strongly recommend you discuss your abnormal results with your physician.
I have already been tested at another lab. Can I send you my test results and have you interpret them?
Because there is no standard for blood data in the blood testing industry and the level of data can vary between testing companies and over time, it can be difficult to analyze and interpret the data. However we will evaluate your test data to determine if we can provide a Smarthealth Report for you.
If I am told I am healthy and I feel healthy, why do I need to test?
A very common question, and there are two simple reasons: First, you will want to establish your healthy baseline for future comparisons. Secondly, we believe prevention is critical to a healthy lifestyle and many times you can feel ‘healthy’ and although no symptoms are present there can be underlying problems that exist which you will want to identify before they escalate.
Where can I have my laboratory test performed?
All specimens are analyzed at Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp). LabCorp operates a nationwide network of more than 1,600 patient service centers, and routine testing is the cornerstone of the company’s industry-leading national network. Use the LabCorp Location page to find a location, get a map and obtain driving directions.
Are my results confidential?
We take great pride in keeping all your information confidential including your results. One of the benefits to testing with our company is that your results will not be shared with your insurance provider, physician or the Medical Insurance Bureau, unless specified otherwise.
Can I take the results to my doctor?
Yes, we encourage you to take your official Lab Results with you when you visit your doctor.
How long does it take to receive my report?
